MS Delta Back the Blue has been working hard to ensure every law enforcement officer in Washington County gets “adopted” through their Adopt-a-Cop campaign.
Since January, 71 officers with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Leland, Arcola, Hollandale, Metcalfe and Greenville police departments have been adopted — even including a K-9 — with 56 still left remaining.
MS Delta Back the Blue co-founders Debbie Lamberson and Jennifer Lamberson said the goal is to have all officers adopted by the end of the month.
“These officers put their lives on the line every time they walk out of their homes, having put on body armor and not knowing if they will get back home or not. We all should certainly show our appreciation every day, in every way possible, and this is just one form of appreciation,” Debbie Lamberson said, noting they give out Christmas goody bags every year as well to all the officers in Washington County.
The local organization’s goal for the Adopt-a-Cop campaign is for each law enforcement officer to receive a personalized letter of appreciation from their adopter and a tangible gift around $25.
The adoption bags typically include a Certificate of Adoption, a thank you letter, and a “to-go” bag including a protein bar, hand sanitizer, lip balm, Propel water additive, memo pad, pens, piece of equipment (package of four belt keepers) and plastic cup. Adopters can also send gift certificates, personal notes, and more to go in the bag.
Participants have the option to choose who they want to adopt. If that officer has already been adopted, an officer will be selected from the list.
All gift bags will be hand delivered to the officers at their respective police department by MS Delta Back the Blue.
“I have had many officers come up to me and tell me how much they appreciate what all MS Delta Back the Blue does for them, how much they look forward to the goody bags, and that without us many feel like there would be no appreciation for their jobs and/or lives,” Debbie Lamberson said.
