On Thursday, Mayor Errick Simmons announced the continuation of a health initiative that allows citizens to access free COVID testing and face masks.
In coalition with National Heart Month, the Mayor’s Health Council’s Health is Wealth 3 event began with its first installment of COVID testing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday at Ward’s Recreation Center, 1648 Hwy. 1 S.
The Friday series will continue to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the dates of Feb. 11, 18, and 25.
On Feb. 11, the testing site will be Hinds Street Baptist Church, 448 N. Hinds St.
On Feb. 18, Ward’s Recreation Center will host the testing event again.
The last scheduled testing event, Feb. 25, will be hosted at the Elks Lodge, 1818 E. Alexander St.
Tests are available for all ages and will be administered by LabLinq Diagnostics and will require only mouth swabs.
In addition, STD testing, blood pressure screenings provided by Plan A, HIV testing, blood sugar checks and other health services will be available.
Inclement weather may cancel the event.
