Greenville City Hall officially reopened its doors to the public Thursday.
The city council voted unanimously to resume normal operations and allow patrons to conduct business inside if they so desire, but while adhering to the mask mandate for city-owned buildings.
Ward 1 Councilman Al Brock during Tuesday’s regular meeting said he had received complaints from residents about having to conduct business outdoors in inclement weather during the prior week.
“I’ve been getting complaints for some time from our citizens both at the permit office and at the water department, particularly, and they have to go to these windows and stand outside in the weather,” Brock said. “No one else in the community at this time has their doors locked and I’d like for us to put whatever policy we need to put in place to unlock the doors of City Hall.”
Ward 4 Councilwoman Lurann Thomas-Kingdom noted she had received similar complaints and said, “I think it’s time to allow people to come back inside and just have their mask on.”
Brock added, “I know that we obviously have been doing that for safety’s sake and health issues and I believe we all feel that we’re certainly on the other side of COVID, so just continue to take whatever precautions you’d like to take.”
He then made a motion for all city-owned buildings to be reopened to the public which was followed by a vote of 4-0.
