HOLLANDALE — Several months ago, the Washington County Library System’s board of trustees voted to suspend services at the Hollandale Library due to a severe ceiling leak and a potential mold issue.
Now, the WCLS is seeking possible assistance to mitigate the damage from the Washington County Board of Supervisors.
In a letter to District 5 Supervisor Jerry Redmond, library director Sidney Cobb stated, “Our board of trustees voted to suspend services until the repairs are made and the mold is professionally removed. We wanted to make the Board of Supervisors aware of the situation and see if you can do anything to help.”
Cobb noted the WCLS is waiting for the City of Hollandale to make the needed repairs as the board of aldermen wants the library to reopen, but there is an issue of cost.
He also highlighted that while he’s making strides to reestablish the “Friends of the Library” group to possibly help with repairs, he is facing difficulty with finding someone to take on such responsibilities.
“In the meantime, I am working with C-spire to get wi-fi access outside the building until we can reopen,” Cobb added. “We might add lockers to distribute books to users and install a Little Free Library.”
