Firefighters are investigating a fire at a home on Delesseps Street that left a 60-year-old Greenville woman dead.
At about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, the Greenville Fire Department's Rescue 2, Ladder 3, Engine 4 and Command 1 were dispatched to a residential fire with an entrapped victim at 638 N. Delesseps St. Greenville Fire Chief Ruben Brown said the home was a shotgun frame structure with flame covering 50% of it, from the porch to the middle of the structure.
During the search, a 60-year-old female victim was discovered on a bed in the back bedroom. Firefighters took her out of the house through a window and began to perform CPR. Brown said she was dead upon arrival from smoke inhalation.
"S.O 100 was called to the scene to confirm the death of the victim. At that time, fire suppression was still in progress," Brown said, noting the fire was later extinguished and all units returned back into service.
The causes of the fire is still under investigation by local Fire Marshals. No other injuries have been reported.
