The City of Greenville held a public hearing on proposing an ad valorem tax revenue increase for fiscal year 2021-2022 and on its proposed budget and proposed tax levies for fiscal year 2021-2022.
Being unanimously approved by the city council along with the budget and tax levies, ad valorem tax millage will be raised from 71.41 to 75.41, effective Oct. 1.
The increase means citizens will pay more in ad valorem taxes on their home, automobile tag, utilities, business fixtures and equipment and rental real property.
For a home valued at $100,000 without the Homestead exemption, taxed at a rate of 71.41 — the current millage rate — the tax bill would be approximately $1,071.
For a home valued at $100,000 without the Homestead exemption taxed at the proposed millage rate — 75.41 — the tax bill would be approximately $1,131.
Total operating receipts for the city as reported by Mayor Errick Simmons amounted to $85,010,627 and total disbursements for the 2021-2022 budget, $89,813,081.
The tax resolution and adoption of the budget were approved without objection or comment.
