For the third Saturday in a row, the Deer Creek School softball team came home to Arcola as champions.
The Lady Warriors won all four games they played in the Sharkey-Issaquena Academy tournament on Saturday to take home the first place trophy.
Deer Creek had won their own tournament and the St. Joseph tournament the previous two weekends.
On Saturday, the Lady Warriors began the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Indianola Academy. They then beat Central Holmes 7-0 and Sharkey-Issaquena 4-0 in the next two games. They finished the tournament with a 6-0 victory over Indianola Academy in the championship game.
“It has been a long time since we have won three tournaments in one year like this,” Deer Cree coach Sierra Roberson said. “The biggest thing is that our defense has gotten so much better. We didn’t make too many errors and that was great too see.”
Deer Creek pitcher Josie Azlin had another strong performance on the mound as she was the winning pitcher in all four games for the Warriors. Azlin stuck out 25 of the 49 batters she faced in the tourney and only walked one batter.
At the plate, Azlin also contributed with a triple and a double. Warriors Brianna Leslie, Kenzlee Wooley and Mattie Arrington also hit doubles.
Gabby Smith connected on a triple.
