When the Farm Bureau Insurance Flames take on the Mitchell’s Small Engine Rampage, it is always a good idea to throw out the record books. No matter what the scoreboard says, these young softballers are going to play hard and have fun until the final out..
Such was the case on a gorgeous early evening at the Delta Sportsplex on Thursday. Girls on both teams made a number of fine plays both at the plate and in the field in what ended as a 13-5 Rampage victory.
The Rampage’s Lindsey Wallace deserved a good bit of credit for her team’s victory. Wallace pitched three innings of scoreless softball, and she also hit a double in the game.
“Lindsey did a good job of throwing strikes, and that is all we really want from her,” said her father and coach Greg Wallace.
Along with coaching his girls’ softball team, Wallace is also the head coach of the Washington School football team.
“Of course, it is a lot more laid back out here then it is coaching football,” Coach Wallace said. “We are doing spring football right now so it is really quite a switch going from one to another. These girls have fun, they play hard and they make you smile.”
Along with Lindsey Wallace, other top performers for the Rampage included Lela Claire Olivi (two hits, two runs) Hannah Rainwater (two singles, two runs), Hannah Perry (inside-the-park home run), Avery Selby (four singles, two runs)m Ruby Love Poole (single, run) Kristen Johnson (single, run) and Carsyn Mitchell.
On the Flames side of the field, Coach Brian Street was equally pleased with his team’s hustle.
“We have a good group of young girls and they are really exited about playing,” Coach Street said.
Coach Street said pitcher Gracie Scarborough did a good job on the mound of settling down and getting some key outs. Street also praised the performance of catcher Delilah Jenkins and shortstop Lily Flowers shortstop.
“The girls are getting better and that is all I can ask from them,” Coach Street said.
