ALTILLO — Greenville High School senior Damon Barnes had more than 200 receiving yards Friday night in his team’s 27-24 road loss to Saltillo.
Barnes also scored one of the four touchdowns in the game for the Hornets who kept battling the entire night.
“We probably should have won this game,” Greenville coach Quintarus McCray said. “We made some costly mistakes at the end, and we had a couple costly penalties.
Hornet Lamarckcus Kinney scored two rushing touchdowns for Greenville (1-6), and Elijah Evans also scored a rushing touchdown.
McCray added that Barnes did a great job receiving for his team the entire game.
“He did a great job of making yards after the catch, the coach said.
Saltillo (2-6) scored a late touchdown in the second quarter to take a 20-12 lead into the half.
The Hornets host West Point next Friday.
Leflore County 54, Riverside 0
The Bulldogs (0-7) will hope to get their first win of the season when they travel to Leland High School to renew a long rivalry with the Cubs.
Leflore County improved its record to 5-3 with the victory.
