The Deer Creek School baseball team couldn’t have asked for a better start to open up the state playoffs, and Warrior Layton Allen could not have had a much better game.
The visiting Deer Creek Warriors defeated Regents of Oxford 15-1 Tuesday in the opening game of the best-of-three series in the first round of the MAIS North 3A Regional. Deer Creek will host Regents on Thursday for game two with game three starting immediately after, if necessary.
At the plate, Layton Allen’s star shined the brightest as he went 4-for-4 and drove in six RBIs. Allen’s night included two doubles and two singles.
“He is just seeing the ball really well right now,” Deer Creek Coach William Ray said.
Brayden Smith also had four hits for the Warriors. Zeb Wooley, Allen and Hayden Smith had multiple steals.
Deer Creek totaled 16 hits and 14 stolen bases.
On the mound, Deer Creek pitcher Bo Ray kept the Regents batters at bay the entire night. In more than five innings of work, Bo Ray gave up just four hits and struck out four batters.
“Bo threw a lot of strikes and really had command of his curve ball,” Coach Ray said.
The Warriors opened things up by scoring eight runs in the fourth inning. The inning included a single and run from John David Furr. Grant Tolliver scored two run.
