Fresh off helping his team snap the 27-game winning streak of crosstown rival St. Joseph, Greenville Christian School quarterback D.J. Smith had another stellar performance in his team’s 44-6 road victory over Tunica Academy Friday.
Smith threw for 434 yards and five touchdowns in the Saints’ blowout victory which moved their record to 3-1. Kerrick Ross caught two touchdowns for GCS, while Josh Martin, Daylyn Metcalf and Eric Kingdom caught one touchdown each. Junior Marlon Palmer also rushed in a touchdown.
“We were a little sloppy in the first half, but overall I would say we played well. D.J. really did a good job of finding the open guys,” Greenville Christian coach John Reed McLendon said.
McLendon said he was also pleased with the performance of his defense against Tunica Academy (1-3).
“They ran the double wing on us, and it was a little different, but the entire defense really did a good job of stepping up,” McLendon said.
The Saints are scheduled to host Hillcrest Christian next Friday.
