The Washington School General football team may have lost 38-8 to Riverfield Academy (La.) Friday night, but General Coach Todd Lott said after the game he was proud of his team.
“I am super proud,” he said. “It sounds strange after a loss, but we played with unbelievable effort. We had a lot of guys out so the others had to step up. We played against a good football team and feel like we took a step in the right direction.”
The Generals’ lone touchdown of the game was scored by Patrick Spencer where he ran for 56 yards. The Gens then gave the ball to sophomore JD Bennett, and he ran to the endzone to score the 2 point conversion.
The Generals (1-6) also had a good chance to score after two Fred Nailer kick returns. On two different returns Nailer ran for 20 yards. Another good play was when Patrick Spencer ran for 25 yards.
The Generals will head to Grenada next Friday to play Kirk Academy, starting at 7 p.m. The Generals will play at home again on October 21 at 7 p.m. for senior night.
Riverfield improved to 5-2.
Jackson Academy 47, Greenville Christian 12
Greenville Christian School quarterback Trey Rhodes threw two touchdowns Friday night in the Saints’ 47-12 road loss to Jackson Academy (6-1).
Rhodes touchdown throws were to Aaron Lee and Kelvin Lyons.
“This was probably the worst game we played all season,” Saints’ coach Jon Reed McLendon said. “We scored late but we were never in the game.
GCS starting quarterback Jaylen Bester was taken out of the game in the second quarter after a tough tackle. Coach McLendon said he Bester should be able to come back and play soon.
The Saints record dropped to 2-4 with the loss, but GCS, which has won two straight state championships, will step down to their own classification next Friday when they travel to Rossville Christian for their first District 1-3A game.

The Greenwaves (2-4) will look to get back on the winning track next Friday night when they host Leland High School.
