The Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) has ruled that the Greenville Christian School varsity football team must forfeit the remainder of its season because of using ineligible players.
Greenville Christian School head coach Jon Reed McLendon confirmed the ruling Friday afternoon, but he has denied any intentional wrong doing and said he hopes to appeal the decision.
Coach McLendon said the accusation is that his program has played players this season that had previously been expelled from other Mississippi high schools.
“We are shocked by this. This is frustrating. We always try to do things the right way and according to the rules,” Coach McLendon said.
The Saints (5-3) were scheduled to end their regular season Friday night at Tri-County Academy (8-1). The MAIS state playoffs begin, which the Saints had qualified for, begin next week.
