In a tough battle that was close throughout, the Greenville Christian School girls basketball team defeated Washington School 48-44 Thursday night at the 4A District 2 semifinals. The second-seeded Lady Saints move on the play Manchester in the championship game Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Delta Streets in Greenwood. Washington School will play St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
In Thursday’s contest, Washington School jumped out to an 8 to 0 lead before GCS came back and led 17 to 14 after the end of one quarter. However, the second quarter belonged to Washington as they went back ahead and led 26 to 21 at half. The third quarter was a defensive battle and at the end Washington School led 29 to 25. However, in the 4th quarter GCS fought back and took the lead with about two minutes to go and held on for the victory.
Brittany Stallion led GCS with 29 points with Jakalya Coats adding 9, Washington School had a balanced scoring with Allie Bennett scoring 12, Avery Doolittle scoring 11, Mary Glenn Hooker scoring 10 and Aubrey Jones adding 9. GCS will play No. 1 Manchester in the finals of the district tournament at 3:30 on Saturday at Delta Streets in Greenwood, while Washington School will play St Joseph at 1.
