The Greenville Christian School boys basketball team wrapped up it season Thursday night with a 55-48 loss to Clinton Christian in the opening round of the MAIS Overall State Tournament.
The Class 3A Saints who were playing against the Class 4A state champions battled hard all game long and were down by 10 points at the half but came all the way back and had two shots in the final minute to tie the game but it just wouldn’t fall.
Greenville Christian Coach Logan Collins said his players have a lot to be proud of.
“After losing the players we lost from last year’s team, nobody expected much from this group. One of my seniors told me this summer that we needed to silence our doubters. “ They came to work ever day and did everything I could asked and then some.
This season the Saints won a third straight district championship, a third straight regional championship, and came up one game short of playing for a third straight championship.
“Our journey may have come to an end today, but I couldn’t be more proud of what all they accomplished. We finished 18-11, but only one of our losses came to a school our size!
“Our theme this season was “be worthy,” which we took from Ephesians 4:1. Paul writes, “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”
“We talked about being worthy of the standard we’ve set as a program but most importantly living a life worthy of our calling from God. As I look back over the course of our season, I think we lived up to both.”
