The Greenville High School girls track team took home the first place trophy at the Region 2-5A Track Meet at Canton on Tuesday. The Hornets finished with 226 points to win the event. Cleveland Central finished second with 123 points.
Under head coach Monica Turner, the Greenville girls were strong in a number of disciplines at the event to help them come out on top.
Precious Smith, for example, won the girls long jump and finished second place in the girls 400 meters and third place in the girls 100 meter dash. Rakaria Wright won the girls high jump.
Brianna Lance won the girls 100 Meter Hurdles and the girls 300 Meter Hurdles.
Sharidon Brady won the girls 1600 meter run. Zaniya Jackson won the girls triple jump and Jacey Thomas won the girls discus.
“I am extremely proud of the girls. They showed tremendous effort all season,” Coach Turner said. “It has certainly been a while since we have won a region tournament.
Below is a list of top Greenville girls finishers.
Brianna Lance won the girls 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 17.79. Lance also won first place in the girls 300 Meter Hurdles.
Sheridon Brady won the girls 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:39.
Courtney Adams finished in second place in the girls 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:49.
Precious Smith won the girls long jump with a leap of 16-08.
Smith also finished third in the girls 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.06. Smith finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.27
Rakaria Wright finished in first place in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
Sheridon Brady won the girls 1600 Meter Run with a time of 6:26.31.
Laven Davis finished second in the girls 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 55.27
Jaliyah Fung finished in second place in the girls 3200 meter run with a time of 15:41.

Zaniya Jackson won the girls triple jump with a leap of 31-02. Jackson also finished in second place in the girls long jump with a leap of 15-10.
Jenazia McNair finished in second place in the girls triple jump with a time of 30-11.
Hannah Lance finished in third place in the girls shot put with a throw of 28-03.75. Bethany Stanford finished in fourth place with a throw of 28-03.00. Jacey Thomas finished in fifth place with a throw of 27-04.75
Jacey Thomas won the girls discus with a throw of 95-00
Greenville High School athletes swept the podium in the girls pole vault as Jenazia McNair, Jaliyah Fung and Brianna Lance all tied first place with a vault of 6 feet.
The Greenville boys team also had a fine showing at the Region 2-5A Track Meet at Canton on Tuesday. The Hornets finished in second place with 142 points. Canton won the meet with 219 points.
David Newsome won the boys 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.54. Newsome also won the boys 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 41.36
Lamarien Dillard finished second in the boys 1600 Meters with a time of 5:16
Lou Sanders won the boys triple jump with a leap of 39-03.
Keonyta Winder finished third in the boys 400 Meter Dash with a time of 52.37
Jacob Turner finished in second place in the boys 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:09.
Willie Wilson finished in third place in the boys 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:10.76
Brandon Leslie won the boys shot put with a throw of 43-02. Leslie also won the boys discus with a throw of 135-00.
The Greenville boys relay team of Jacob Turner, Webb, Willie Wilson and Keonyta Winder won the boys 4X400 Meter relay
Zaelyn Humphrey won the boys pole vault with vault of eight feet.
