Coach Dicenzo Miller in his first year of coaching girls' high school fastpitch has high hopes for the Greenville High School Honeybees. Miller has been enthusiastic, goal-oriented, and patient since the day he walked on the field. Entering the season with only two seniors, Tykeria McCullum (catcher) and Tylar McMillon (infielder), Miller expects them to lead by example and eventually a chance for his young group to earn a playoff ticket this season.
The Honeybees have already clinched 4 wins this season defeating several local teams including O’Bannon, Humphreys County, and a big win over Ruleville Thomas Edwards. After a 25-10 win over Ruleville, Coach Miller admitted that his squad has a long way to go, but are getting better. The team is 0-3 in district play but the determination of this young team is here to stay.
Miller will build his foundation by “continuing to play hard and teach them more fundamental things about the game of softball.” With a split winning record thus far (4-4), the Honeybees are well on their way for a turnaround program. Notable players have been Tykeria McCullum and Hope Ledlow, both of whom have been hitting the ball well this season, Miller said.
The Honeybees were scheduled to play Canton at home on Tuesday, and will travel to nearby rival Gentry on Thursday, and will conclude at Holmes County on Friday this week.
