The Greenville High School boys basketball team ended its four-game losing streak Thursday night in emphatic fashion as the Hornets scored the most points they have all season in their 92-77 home victory over Humphreys County.
“This was a great and much needed victory for us,” Greenville coach Janee Ford said. “We played defense well and we played offense with tempo and shared the ball well. I am proud of the kids. I thought we should have won three of the four games we lost.”
Five Greenville )(6-7) players finished the game scoring in double figures.
Senior Le’Kinton McNeil Jr. paced the Hornets with 21 points and junior Demarques Gibson scored 19 points. Freshman De’Marion Gibson scored 14 points. Junior Isaiah Thomas scored 13 points and senior J’Kayden Clark scored 10. McNeil led the Hornets with eight assists and four steals. Smith finished with eight rebounds.
Humphreys County’s Fredrick Gray led all scorers with 30 points, and senior Eric Hill scored 17.
The Hornets outscored the Cowboys (5-6) in all four corners of Thursday’s game and made seven of their 16 points in the game.
“We played a complete game in the victory, and we showed what we are capable of,” Coach Ford said.
The Hornets’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at Greenwood.
