The Greenville High School girls basketball team picked up a big win Tuesday night as the Honeybees defeated the Cleveland Central Wolves 36-35. Senior Tykeria McCullum led Greenville with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
Junior Charlisa Barney scored 14 points to go along with five assists and four steals.
The victory for the Honeybees (12-11) was their first district (5A Region 2) victory of the year.
“We just kept playing and we fought through adversity,” Greenville coach Dakedreon Lampkin said.
Lampkin added that his Honeybees still have control of their own destiny when they play in the district tournament which starts next Monday in Gentry. Greenville needs to finish as one of the top four teams in the six-team district tournament to advance to the state playoffs.
“Everything starts on Monday for us. We can’t get caught up with what has happened in the past. We still have everything to play for.”
