Local golfer Joe Joe Jones accomplished one of the rarest feats in golf when he made an albatross at the Greenville Municipal Golf Course Tuesday.
Jones’ albatross came on the par-five fourth hole when his second shot from the fairway found the bottom of the hole.
Because they require two near perfect shots, albatrosses are exponentially rarer than an even a hole-in-one.
Making an albatross requires strength off the tee to even have a shot at reaching the green in two on a par five or holing a drive on a par four.
The shot was witnessed by Derrick Cotton and Jone’s daughter.
Casey Kelly aces fifth hole
Jone’s albatross wasn’t the only great shot hit recently at the Greenville Municipal Golf Course.
On Tuesday, Casey Kelly, hitting a seven iron, made an ace on the 170-yard fifth hole. The hole-in-one was witnessed by Hauff Carpenter and Jace Jordan.
