The O’Bannon High School track team had a number of great finishes at the MHSAA 2A North State Track Meet at Winona on Saturday with a number of athletes qualifying for next week’s state track meet.
The Greenwave relay teams did especially well.
The O’Bannon boys 4X800 team of Dwan McNeil, Perez Crutchfield, Jermemiah Berry and Mikeal Watson took first place at the meet.
O’Bannon head coach Charles Moore said this relay team has gotten stronger each year, and it has a solid chance of winning the state championship this Monday in Pearl, Mississippi.
On Saturday, the relay team finished nine seconds ahead of second place Leflore County with a time of 9:04.
“They were just so far ahead of everyone else. They really ran well,” Coach Moore said.
The O’Bannon 4X400 girls team also qualified for the state meet by coming in fourth place at North State. This team is comprised of Breanna Caldwell, Halo White, Elaynah Morey and Khylay Brewer.
Individually, the Greenwaves also had some top finishes, including Kameron Jones who finished first in the 800 Meter Run.
O’Bannon long distance runner Jordan McCullum also qualified for state by finishing third in the 3200 meter run and second in the 1600 meter run.

O’Bannon’s Dorenlius Tiney finiished third in the 200 Meter Dash.
O’Bannon’s Courtney Hawkins finished third in the discus.
O’Bannon’s Javonte Litt finished fourth in the discus.
