The Washington School tennis team didn’t just win the 4A-North District Tournament on Wednesday. They smashed their way to the championship in convincing fashion.
On the boys side, every general player either won their district final or finished runner-up. Washington School No. 1 tennis player Baker Bush and No. 2 player George Walker both won their district brackets. The Washington School No. 1 boys doubles team of Luke McPherson and Alexander Robertson won their district bracket, and the Washington School No. 2 boys doubles team of brothers Ben and Williams Schuster won their district bracket.
The Washington School mixed doubles team of Caroline Horn and Prentiss Doolittle also claimed the district title.
On the girls side of the net, No. 2 girls single player Alli Anne Flanagan finished runner-up in the district. No. 1 girls doubles team of Sally Beth Freeman and Hannah Kate Hooker finished runner-s up in the district. The girls No. 2 doubles team of Emelie Walker and Maggie Wade won the district championship.
“I was extremely proud of the way the whole team had played. I had a good feeling that the boys would play well, but I didn’t not know if the girls would play that good,” Washington School tennis coach Jamie Bell said.
The Generals next tournament is on Tuesday in the Class 4A North State tournament in Clarksdale.
