The Riverside High School baseball team isn’t letting up as the Bulldogs continue to impress in the final week of the regular season.
In Monday’s 24-0 victory over Leland, Lucas Sims picked up his 10th victory of the season. Riverside’s record improved to 22-2 with the victory for the Bulldogs who were scheduled to battle Strayhorn Tuesday night for the district championship.
In Monday’s win, Tyler Williams had three singles and two RBI. Alex Chamblee had two singles, Cody Polson had 5 RBI, Braxton Toten had two doubles and three RBI and Abraham Ramirez had an RBI.
“I can’t remember ever having a season like this,” Coach Boo Ellis said last week about his team’s season. “I think the key for our success is the confidence and commitment that our players are playing with. They understand that this has the chance to be a real special season.”
Sims picked up another victory last Thursday in his team’s 19-2 victory over O’Bannon. In this victory, Sims gave up just two innings in five innings of work.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs played a three-team round robin tournament at Riverside. In the Bulldogs’ first game of the day, Jason Irion picked up his 10th win of the season in a 14-0 victory over Greenville Christian.
Later that day, Riverside fell for just the second time this season in a 6-3 loss to Clarksdale.
