AVON — The Riverside High School boys basketball team fought through adversity Friday night but it just wasn’t enough as they fell to visiting Leflore County 70-68.
Before the game, it was announced that the Bulldogs’ dominant big man Jordan Wilson, who leads Riverside with 10.3 rebounds a game, would miss the game with the flu.
The Leflore County Tigers opened the game with fine play and led by as many as 16 points.
The Bulldogs battled back in the second half; however, despite the fact that Aaron Stewart was in foul trouble. Stewart, who finished with a team high 23 points, came back into the game with six minutes to play and went on a personal 10-0 scoring run by himself.
“I wasn’t disappointed in our effort, but we have to learn how to play better through adversity. This is the first time in more than two years that we have given up more than 70 points in a game,” Riverside coach Sam Monroe said.
The loss dropped the Bulldogs’ record to 12-6 overall in 1-1 in 2A Region 3 play.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Shelby to take on the North Side Gators Tuesday night in another district game.
