St. Joseph Catholic School’s Alayna Orgeron is only a seventh grader, but she has already made a huge impact on the Fighting Irish girls varsity soccer program.
Alayna was the leading goal scorer on the St. Joseph squad which wrapped up its season two weeks ago, and Irish head coach Robby Greco said he expects her shine to grow even brighter in the years to come.
“We didn’t score a lot of goals this season, but most were scored by her,” Coach Greco said. “She is fast, little and she fights hard for the ball all the time. She always gave it 100 percent.”
Coach Greco said he expects Alayna to grow into a true team leader in the next couple of years.
“We are going to be a young team the next couple of years, and the best part of this season was how much experience all of our young players gained,” he said.
Seeing young talented players blossom is nothing new to Coach Greco. The coach has been a part of the Greenville soccer program for much of his lifetime. He began playing soccer when he was four years old for the Greenville Youth Soccer Association. Greco has been helping to build the Irish soccer program over the last decade. In 2021, he was named the head soccer coach.
Greco believes there will be no quick fixes in turning the Irish program around. It will take a hard work ethic from all the players on his teams.
“These girls have the talent. It is just a matter of putting in the work.”
