Caroline and Catherine Meyer are twin sisters who play on the St. Joseph Catholic School soccer team. The two 12th graders have spent their young lives always together. While they are twins, they are certainly not identical — in their looks, their personalities or how they play soccer.
Caroline is the more outgoing sister by nature and typically likes to take command of things. On the soccer field Caroline is defensive minded. She wants to steal her opponent’s glory.
“If you have the ball, Caroline is either going to get the ball or she is going to take you down,” said St. Joe soccer coach Robbie Greco.
Caroline’s sister Catherine, meanwhile, is a much more laid back person. She says she takes things more as they come and likes to go with the flow. However, on the field, Catherine plays with a fierce spirit. “Catherine usually prances around a little until she gets the ball, but when she does, she really takes off,” said Coach Greco.
The Meyer sisters say they are both trying to soak in these last few weeks of playing soccer together. They still have goals of helping lead the Fighting Irish deep into the playoffs.
This is also the last time they will get to play with their younger sister, Mary Patton, who is a sophomore on the soccer team.
“It is makes me really sad to think about all of the things we are going to do this year for the last time. I just love the family at St. Joseph, and I am definitely going to miss it,” Caroline said. “Everybody knows each other at this school. and everybody loves each other. St. Joseph is a very inclusive place.”
Caroline and Catherine are planning to go separate ways for college. Caroline plans to attend the University of Arkansas and study marketing. Catherine plans to attend Ole Miss and one day hopes to be an occupational therapist.
“The best part of having her as my sister was always having someone to lean on,” Caroline said. “It is going to be real weird next year being at different schools and not having her with me.”
No matter where their lives take them from St. Joseph, the twin sisters will always have each other close to their hearts.
