Despite having seven of their best players gone from last year’s team, the St. Joseph Catholic School boys basketball team is improving every day under head coach James Hunter.
Last Thursday night in their 58-29 victory over Manchester Academy, the Fighting Irish (4-6) had one of their best games of the year.
Junior TJ Phillips led St. Joseph with a career-high 26 points. Freshman Cordario Calvin scored 13 points and Ar’Mon Hannah scored 12 points.
Coach Hunter calls his team this season much different than his teams from recent years that liked to run and gun.
“We are much more of a halfcourt team than we have been, and it has taken me a little while to adjust to their strengths. I am very pleased with the direction they are heading and the fact that they are getting better each day,” Coach Hunter said.
The Fighting Irish are scheduled to host Delta Streets Tuesday night.
