CARROLLTON — The St. Joseph Catholic School Fighting Irish got some revenge over an old foe Friday night as they convincingly defeated the Rebels from Carroll Academy 52-16. St. Joe’s Jerrian King returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to put the Irish up 6-0. The Rebels would answer right back to take an 8-6 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter.
But, after that it was all Irish (3-1).
Both Kye Nelson and King scored multiple offensive touchdowns during the remainder of the game, and St. Joe’s Jack Hughes blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.
“After we got down 8-6, we came out and played really well,” St. Joseph coach John Baker said.
The victory was especially sweet for the Irish who lost to Carroll Academy (2-3) two seasons ago in the MAIS Class 3A State Playoffs. Friday night was the first ever victory for the Irish over Carroll Academy.
