Greenville Christian School girls varsity basketball coach Brother Sandifer called his team’s performance Thursday night in their 59-26 home victory over Washington School the best the Lady Saints have played all year.
“We shot the ball well from outside. We played really good defense and got a lot of turnovers. We made most of our layups which we have had trouble with earlier in the year. I was very, very pleased. If we shoot the ball like we did from outside, we can be tough,” Coach Sandifer said.
Two of the Lady Saints’ star players — Denaria Carter and Jakayla Coats — also shined. With the help of three 3-pointers in the game, Coats scored 21 points. Carter, meanwhile, finished with 22 points, scoring 14 in the first half.
“This victory gives us a lot of confidence,” Coach Sandifer said.
Ella Grace McNemar and Khole McCorkle both scored eight points to lead the Lady Generals, with McCorkle making a pair of three pointers.
This is the second loss in a row for Washington School (7-6) which lost to Manchester Academy earlier this week. The Lady Generals are playing with out their senior leader Mary Glenn Hooker, who is her team’s leading scorer. Hooker has suffered a torn ACL injury. Head coach Yvette McPherson said earlier this week that she hopes to have Mary Glenn back on the court soon.
“Since she went out, we have been working as a team and working hard together. A lot of players have had to step up. We have had to work together on new offensive sets to get some people open. We are hoping Mary Glenn comes back. Because she is a senior, she really wants to come back.”
