Riverside High School head football coach Tavares Johnson Jr. said Tuesday he has resigned from his position. This was just a personal decision that I have made,” Johnson Jr. said.
Johnson Jr., 26, was hired in March by the Western Line School District to take over the Bulldog program.
Officials at the school district said Tuesday they had no comment “at this time” about Johnson Jr.’s resignation.
Johnson Jr., 26, spent the last three seasons coaching under his father, Tavares Johnson, the Simmons High School head coach who, by winning multiple state championships, helped turned the Simmons Devils into a Delta juggernaut.Tavares Johnson Sr. is now the head coach at Mississippi Delta Community College.
The Riverside football team has an 0-3 record this season and is scheduled to host West Tally this Friday.
