The Washington School baseball team picked up its biggest win of the season Monday when they defeated defending state champion Manchester Academy 1-0 behind an extra inning suicide squeeze bunt by Reid Henderson and a tremendous complete game pitching performance by Turner Hitt. Hitt struck out eight batters.
The Washington Generals (13-10) are now a perfect 7-0 in conference play and they will finish the regular season with a double header against Manchester on Friday.
“Turner had a special performance. He was lights out for us,” Washington School coach Hunter Palasini said. “We played an overall complete game. Our defense also played great.”
Henderson’s winning bunt came in the eighth inning, the first extra inning, and scored JD Bennett. A walk by Cuay Smith helped keep the inning alive.
Coach Palasini added that it is rewarding watching his team improve this season, and the improvement has been a total team effort.
“We are just starting to play together.”
Tri Avis, Cauy Smith and Hunter Tressell stole two bases.
