Mayor Errick D. Simmons announces, “Get Out the Vaccine” (GOTV) effort, to effectively and equitably “GET OUT THE VACCINE” to all residents of the City of Greenville. Given that vaccines are now available for all Mississippians, Mayor Simmons will continue to partner with local hospital and health department, medical providers, community health centers, pharmacies, nursing homes, senior living facilities, long-term care facilities, businesses, churches and faith-based organizations, social and civic organizations, first responders, other community-based partners, and other local, state, and federal officials, agencies, and entities to effectively and equitably “GET OUT THE VACCINE” in Greenville.
The COVID-19 vaccine is the path forward for ending the current pandemic and reopening cities. Mayor Simmons, who is fully vaccinated, urges all residents, especially those who have disproportionately been impacted by this pandemic, to get the vaccine. According to Mississippi State Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccination Report of March 15, 2021, 64% of whites have been vaccinated in Mississippi compared to only 27% blacks. Over the next sixty (60) days, there will be drive-through vaccinations sites, meetings with faith-based leaders, free transportation services offered to vaccination sites, virtual education and hesitancy town hall meetings with medical providers, and a number of other efforts necessary to “GET OUT THE VACCINE”.
Statement of Mayor Errick D. Simmons
The vaccine is safe and I strongly urge all to take the vaccine. We must collectively increase the vaccination number here in Greenville and. I know a number of our brothers and sisters are hesitant; and, they are taking the “wait and see” approach. But we have lost too many in this community and far too many in America to “wait and see” another loved-one lost to this disease. Let us “Get Out the Vaccine” and let us do it together.
