Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office are activity searching for whoever may be responsible for the death of a local man who was found dead last week. On Monday afternoon, dozens of Sheriff's Deputy vehicles were on Tampa Drive.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, Barber said the sheriff's office received a call from someone reporting a white male, who was later identified as 52-year-old Kenneth Mason, a resident of Council Circle, found dead on the ground in the 200 block of Blaylock Road.
Barber said Mason appeared to have received multiple gunshot wounds. His body was flown to Jackson for an autopsy and it was confirmed he died from the gunshot wounds.
Barber said Mason's vehicle, a 2006-2008 maroon colored Chevy trail blazer, was also missing from the scene.
"We believe that due to the fact that the vehicle was taken from the scene that he should have been in, by the vehicle being gone and other personal items that were gone, we are treating as a homicide and possible robbery.
"We are just working and following up on some stuff right now and conducting a traffic stop," Barber said at 4 p.m. Monday.
