The search for a new superintendent for Greenville Public School District began Tuesday after board members determined the search method.
Superintendent Janice Page-Johnson announced her retirement in March, effective June 30.
Board members are working with the Mississippi Schools Board Association (MSBA) to find a new superintendent for the district.
The contract with MSBA will cost the district $10,500 plus expenses.
The services MSBA will provide are:
• Meet with the school board
• Establish the criteria/qualifications
• Assist the school board in establishing the search timeable.
• Conduct stakeholder meetings in the district
• Prepare an application form and an announcement brochure
• Advertise the position
• Contact the individuals
• Operates a Prospective Superintendent Leadership Academy
• Process each application
• Evaluate each application
• Interview and conduct reference checks
• Present the board a summary report
• Prepare sample questions
Board member Jan Vaughn said she desires the “complete” services MSBA offers.
“I moved the motion that we do the complete search because that will ensure that the person has a thorough background check and certified to be a superintendent in MS, according to MDE’s guidelines,” Vaughn said. “I just want us to be very cautious when it comes to picking a new superintendent.”
Loretta Shannon, school board president, said she looks forward to finding the right candidate.
“We want a superintendent that will help us move forward because we are already moving in the right direction,” Shannon said. “We want a person that will help us go to a higher level. We need someone that can adjust easily to our environment or community.”
