Greenville residents can look forward to many of the sewer and drainage issues around the city being mitigated thanks to the developments in the Sewer Rehabilitation Project (Contract No. 5).
A sink hole was discovered Monday evening at the intersection of Clover Street and Bermuda Drive, which calls for the replacement of an 18-inch storm cover.
However, Contract No. 5 covers a complete rehabilitation of the West Terrace Garden sanitary sewer system, sewer reconstruction work along S. Main Street, and sewer rehabilitation work for Chatham Drive and Twist Street.
While frustrations about the sewer system have been high, residents need not be frustrated about the foreseeable future of the sewer system.
“The project has been in the making since the city first began assessing the Terrace Garden sewer system in 2015,” William Burle of Burle Engineers, PA said. “The plans and specifications for this project were submitted to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) for approval in December 2019.”
During a February council meeting, the city authorized Burle Engineers to advertise for the project upon receiving MDEQ approval, which the firm did last week.
The bid advertisement was published in Clarion Ledger’s March 15 edition and will be published once more.
The bid opening is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 29 at city hall.
