A Democratic Primary Election is being held Monday with polls opening from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
To cast a ballot, voters must have a valid government-issued photo identification, which can include a driver’s license, a state-issued ID card, a passport, a government employee ID card, a firearms license, a student ID from any Mississippi college, a military ID or a Mississippi Voter identification card.
The general election will take place Nov. 5.
The candidates looking to fill the Democratic seat on the upcoming general election ballot and the positions they are contending for are:
- Mayor: Errick Simmons
- Council Member Ward 1: Oliver Lamar Johnson
- Council Member Ward 2: Matthew Dee, Patrick Ervin and Lois Hawkins
- Council Member Ward 6: James Wilson Sr.
The voting precincts will be Ward 1, Buster Brown Community Center, 400 Robertshaw St.; Ward 2, Elk’s Lodge, 1818 E. Alexander St.; Ward 3 Covenant Presbyterian, 1865 S. Main St.; Ward 4 Senior Citizens Center, 142 N. Shelby St.; Ward 5 Ward’s Recreation Center,1648 Mississippi 1 S.; Ward 6 Greater Springfield Church, 802 Harris St.
