Delta Regional Medical Center and the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA have partnered again for their 5210 Weigh To Go program taking place this month.
Although this is DRMC and YMCA’s first year holding this program, this will be their third program this year.
The 5210 Weigh To Go Program will last six weeks, with the goal of achieving a healthier lifestyle.
Kim Dowdy, the community development manager at DRMC, said that goal will be achieved by adding simple steps, getting together a team of friends or co-workers and becoming educated about various health topics.
During the six weeks, participants will be screened for cholesterol, blood sugar, cardiac risk factor, blood pressure and weight at the start and end of the program. Various health professionals will also share their knowledge at group sessions.
“These informative discussions will allow the program participants to ask questions and learn more about healthier living,” Dowdy said. “We look forward to continuing the partnership with the YMCA, and we hope to continue this program and continue to move forward with future ideas.”
Participants do not have to be a member of the YMCA to join a 5210 team. Teams and individuals ages 18 and older can participate in the program once a year.
The format involves teams of six in a friendly competition to improve their numbers for themselves and in a group setting, with prizes awarded at the end of the program.
The cost to participate is $30 per team, which will be paid to the YMCA.
The initial screening will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at the YMCA, 1688 Fairgrounds Road. Space is limited, so interested participants are encouraged to start signing up.
Mickie Sandidge, program director for YMCA, said she looks forward to this new challenge.
“In the previous two challenges, we have had an amazing turnout and we look forward to another good turnout for this challenge,” Sandidge said.
Participants can register by contacting Sandidge at 662-335-7258 or hcmymca@suddenlinkmail.com.
