A dance group and church are partnering together to host a community event that aims to bring attention to health while raising money for charity on Saturday from 8 a.m.- noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Parish Hall Building.
The Delta Divas Line Dancers and Sacred Heart Church are sponsoring an indoor yard sale and health fair.
The yard sale will offer items such as clothing, shoes and household goods.
Free health screenings for blood pressure, glucose monitoring and cholesterol, as well as health information on HTN, diabetes, stroke, cholesterol and obesity, will be provided.
“We are providing not only health screenings but if a person who is coming in to get check, will have an opportunity to purchase items as well,” said Gilda Sanford, coordinator of Delta Divas. “We wanted to give back to the community and show an appreciation for Sacred Heart for allowing us to use their building to host our line dancing classes.”
Proceeds from the indoor yard sale will benefit St. Vincent shelter.
Delta Divas Line Dancing , a dancing group open to all community members at no cost, is active four days a week.
“It is a community exercising group, that stays fit through line dancing,” Sanford said. “We have a lot of fun while staying active.”
The dance group currently has 60 members.
The group’s schedule is Mondays at Lucy Webb at 4:30-6 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday at Sacred Heart Parish Hall from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday at EmBoyd School at 4:30-6 p.m.
St. Vincent de Paul Society, under the direction of St. Joseph Catholic church, offers outreach services at 711 Washington Ave. to community members in need.
