The seventh annual Fire and Life Safety Festival is only a few days away for folks looking for something to do this weekend.
Taking place at Stein Mart Square, the festival is set to officially kick off at 10 a.m. But before people start learning smart safety tips, there will be a Stop, Drop and Run 5K race at 8 a.m.
Registration costs $30 and registration forms can be found online at racesonline.com/events/Greenville-Fire-Department-5k-run-walk. There will also be on-site registration from 7-7:45 a.m. Participation medals will be given out to everyone who completes the 5K and there will also be first-, second- and third-place medals for the top three finishers.
There will be medals given out to the winners and everyone participating will receive a free T-shirt.
After the 5K, fun festival activities will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.
There will be events for all ages to participate in, including a 1-mile Fun Run for children, cheer competition for area schools, a Jaws of Life demonstration, kids combat challenge and firefighter combat challenge, where fellow firefighters will combat with their co-workers and other firefighters from different areas.
Everything at this year’s festival will be free, from the food and drinks to the games and activities for children.
Greenville Fire Department Chief Ruben Brown said this event is designed to bring everyone in the community together.
“It’s going to be family-fun event. We’re not just focusing on fire safety, but life safety,” he said.
There will be about 20 safety vendors set up at the festival, some of which include Delta Regional Medical Center, Air Evac, Pafford EMS, Pafford Air One, Atmos Energy, 811 Dig, Texas Gas, Mid Delta Airport, MS Department of Health and American Red Cross.
