A 12-year-old girl is recovering at a Jackson hospital after being shot early Sunday morning.
Greenville Police Chief Delando Wilson said at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 400 block of North Eighth Street in reference to shots fired in the area.
Once officers were in the area, Wilson said they were notified of a shot person in a house in the 400 block of North Eighth Street.
Inside the home, officers found the 12-year-old girl with a gunshot wound, who was transported to Delta Regional Medical Center before being transported to a Jackson hospital.
“(The child’s) last condition was listed as critical, but stable,” Wilson said.
Wilson said the child’s mother was also injured with a graze wound from a bullet.
Witnesses inside the home told detectives someone fired several shots into the house from outside of the home, which struck the victims.
Wilson said detectives are currently following leads.
