Greenville Girls Rock is making its way back to Greenville.
The second annual Greenville Girls Rock event will be from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday at the Washington County Convention Center, 1040 South Raceway Road.
Sha’Ketta Davis, founder and executive director of Making A Great Impact In the Community (M.A.G.I.C.), said at last year’s event, they recognized 12 women born in Greenville who have made outstanding contributions to their communities.
“This year, we are recognizing 23 women and two youth entrepreneurs. We are anticipating an amazing turnout for this year’s event,” Davis said.
On June 24, M.A.G.I.C. posted on their Facebook and Instagram pages accepting nominations for this year’s Greenville Girls Rock: Washington County Edition. Nominations were closed Aug. 31, and 46 women were nominated.
The women were contacted via email, Facebook and phone beginning on Sept. 23 and were informed of their nomination.
In order to proceed to the next phase of the process, each woman was asked to submit a headshot, biography and video detailing their journey through purpose and encouraging words to the community. Of the 46 women nominated, 23 answered the call.
The nominees are Kiara Chinn; Quanisha Ford; Tammy Fordham Bell; Patricia Hamilton Lee; Gearlene Howard; Tashaka Jenkins; Takaela Joseph; Re’Dhonda Malone, Ph.D; Tashanda Mosley; Takesha Norman; Tarsha Parker; Brittany Phelps-Jones; Pandora Redmond; Ashley Reed; Romelda Robinson; Mara Scott; Netty Seard; Jovondra Spears; Candi Stone; Marion Tyler; Etta Washington; Lisa Wigfall-Chester and Deloris Williams. The two youth entrepreneurs are Chloe Chinn and Kassidi Gladney.
There are five awards that will be presented in the following categories: Defying the Odds Award, Danielle Thomas Most Determined Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, Essence of M.A.G.I.C. Award and Woman of the Year Award.
There will be seven Greenville Girls Rock Awards and 11 candidates will receive a Spotlight Of Recognition medal for their outstanding contributions.
General admission tickets cost $20 in advance and $30 at the door. Youth tickets, for ages 4-17, cost $10 in advance and at the door.
The mistress of ceremony will be Dr. Nakisha McCray Watts of She Uplifts, and the guest speaker is Pam Chatman of PChatman Television Network.
Davis previously said this event is beneficial to the community because it promotes community, unity and individual empowerment.
“The community will come together on one accord to pay tribute to individuals who are positively impacting those around them. It is my hope that all in attendance are inspired to step out of their comfort zone, allow sparks of ingenuity and motivation to ignite, network with those they meet at the event, and venture out to maximize their fullest potential,” Davis said. “Anyone attending this event can look forward to having an amazing night filled with entertainment, encouragement by Pam Chatman, networking opportunities and time to recognize the contributions of others and be inspired by their stories.”
Food vendors for the event are: Na-Cho Mamaz Tacos by Kendra Hair, The Grill by Tosharo Myers, Classic Eats Catering Co. by Charity Dunning and NikkiEarl Snack Shop by Nikki Phillips.
