LELAND — Residents of Leland will be able to hear from city officials regarding the budget for the upcoming fiscal year which does not reflect any outstanding changes or deviations from the normal fees.
The city’s total revenue is $7,947,808 which is noticeably more, $182,300 more, than last year’s budget of 7,765,508.
Of the city’s total revenues, $2,825,927 will be allocated for the general fund; $616,406 for the solid waste fund; $3,435,000 for the electrical fund; $835,800 for the water and sewer fund; $208,593 for the bond fund; $25,582 for fire protection; and $500 for drug enforcement.
Mayor Kenny Thomas said the only major concern he and other residents have at the moment is getting the residents’ electrical issues resolved.
“We’re taking care of that problem by cutting our right of ways,” Thomas said.
Total expenditures amounts to $8,070,751 and it appeared as though the city would be $122,943 in the red. However, the city’s excess expenditures was mitigated by $403,400 left over from the previous fiscal year.
The city’s meeting, which will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday at Leland City Hall, will come just 48 hours after a special election for a proposed bond of $8.75 million to be used for the renovation of many Leland School District facilities, which will not be directly addressed according to Leland City Clerk Cynthia Norals.
If the school bond is approved, the bond would affect Leland School District residents by raising the property tax millage rate by 14 mills—$2,663.25. For those with the Homestead exemption, it would be $1,475.50.
