Greenville police are searching for the person responsible for the shooting death of a local man.
At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were called to the 300 block of North Steele Lane in reference to a shot person.
Upon arrival, officers found a 47-year-old black male in the backyard of 339 N. Steele Lane.
Greenville Police Department Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said the victim appeared to have at least one gunshot wound in the abdomen.
Emergency medical personnel with Pafford EMS and the Washington County Coroner arrived on scene.
“The coroner pronounced the victim deceased on scene,” Merchant said, noting they will confirm his cause of death once an autopsy has been performed.
Emergency medical personal arrived on scene and the Washington County Coroner was dispatched.
Merchant said investigators with GPD’s Criminal Investigation Division were dispatched and are following leads at this time. No arrests have been made thus far.
Merchant said the identity of the man will be released pending family notification.
