The North Mississippi Chapter of American Red Cross in Washington County is seeking volunteers to assist with the services provided by the Red Cross.
They are hosting a North MS American Red Cross Expo from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the American Annex Building, 145 N. Shelby St.
Betty Allison, disaster program specialist for the Greenville office, said she has invited city elected officials and the community to come learn more about the American Red Cross and join as volunteers.
“We want to identify and train a core group of volunteers that will become the champions of disaster preparedness, strengthen our relationship with government and county officials and build alliances with partner organizations,” Allison said.
The volunteers the Red Cross is seeking, she said, are needed for office support, assistance in disaster relief, home safety such as installing smoke detectors in homes, participating in the pillow case program and more.
Allison said they will be giving presentations of different options the Red Cross provides and hopes it will appeal to residents who want to give back and help the community.
“We are trying to let them know how important it is to give back to the community. We believe every life has value and talents to offer,” Allison said. “Whether it is giving someone a plate of food after a tornado, installing free smoke alarms in a home or assisting a family after they have lost everything from a house fire, you have a way to support your community. We believe in you and that together, we can make a difference in Washington County. Please join us.”
Light refreshments will be provided.
