Police officers, in many cases, are the first responders to a problematic situation, but they have to be ready for any situation, including domestic violence.
Law enforcement officials who would like to receive domestic violence training have four chances to do so this week through the Delta-Wide Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Training.
From 8 a.m. to noon and from 1-5 p.m. today and Friday, free training will be held at Our House Inc., 1213 VFW Road.
The training will be repeated, so participants are asked to attend one session only.
Training topics will include:
• Law enforcement’s role in domestic violence crimes;
• Enforcement of protection orders;
• Report writing;
• Effective investigation to hold offenders accountable and prevent future abuse;
• Interviewing and evidence gathering;
• Probable cause determination techniques in domestic violence cases; and
• Domestic violence laws.
The two trainers for this event are Gail Thompson, Esq., of North Mississippi Rural Legal Services, and Dr. Errol Toulon, Jr., of Sulfolk County Sheriff, New York.
