Sand, bags available at Expo Center this weekend for flash flooding


Residents concerned about possible flash flooding in the next week are encouraged to bag up some sand this weekend.

The Office of Emergency Management sent out a message Friday afternoon that sand and bags are available this weekend at the Washington County Expo Building due to a threat of flash flooding next week.

Residents who have recently experienced flash flooding of their homes and businesses are encouraged to take advantage of preparing sand bags this weekend to protect their property.

The self-serve sight is located in the rear of the expo building on the Washington County Convention Center grounds. Those who come out need to bring their own shovel.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, there is an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms expected to start Sunday night, possibly after midnight.

On Monday, there is a 90% chance rain and thunderstorms throughout the day and a 70% chance of rain and storms that night.

On Tuesday, there is a 50% change of rain and thunderstorms and by that night, there will be a 30% chance of rain and storms.

On Wednesday, the rain is expected to increase again with a 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day and night.

On Thursday, there is a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms.
