The Mississippi Association of School Superintendents (MASS) has appointed Dr. Mario Willis, superintendent of Hollandale School District, as a member of the MASS’ Board of Directors. He was recently selected for the position at the 2019 MASS/Alliance Summer Convention in Biloxi.
Willis, a Hollandale native, has worked as the HSD Superintendent for three of his 17 years in school administration and education in Mississippi and Tennessee. Willis is actively involved in several state-level organizations with educational development.
“It is an honor to serve District 2 on the MASS Board. I appreciate being appointed by my peers and other District 2 leaders,” Willis said. “I want to officially thank everyone for believing in me, and I want to thank the Hollandale School District Board of Trustees and community for allowing me the opportunity to serve in my hometown.”
Dr. Willis holds bachelor’s and a master’s degrees from Alcorn State University. He also holds an Ed.S. and Ed. D. from Delta State University. In addition, Dr. Willis is also a 2008 (Cohort 8) graduate of New Leaders for New Schools, 2015 Relay Graduate School of Education graduate of the National Principal Academy Fellowship and a 2016 Mississippi School Boards Association graduate of the Prospective Superintendent Leadership Academy. Willis is the newly chosen Superintendent of the Year for Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools (DAAIS).
The Mississippi Association of School Superintendents is a non-profit association with a thriving membership made up of the 141 public school superintendents across the state of Mississippi.
The Alliance of Educational Leaders of Mississippi is made up of more than 2000 public school administrators whose Superintendent is a member of MASS. The organization’s Board of Directors is made up of two superintendents from each of the old five congressional districts and five at-large members and five officers. The board meets on a bi-monthly basis.
