During Western Line School District’s July 22 board meeting, board members discussed changing their current accounting services software.
Western Line currently uses Harris Business Solutions for payroll, budgeting, employee time clocks, leave time, purchasing, and employee tax documents, fixed assets and other pertinent information.
After hearing proposals from other financial software companies, Superintendent Lawrence Hudson said the board agrees Marathon Business Solutions is the better option for Western Line’s needs over the current company they use.
“We feel that Marathon will offer the district a solution that is more efficient and effective because it will synchronize well with other programs that we are using through Central Access,” Hudson said.
Compared to Harris, which will cost the district $18,500 plus additional expenses, Marathon will cost the district a flat rate of $19,500, which covers all services.
Marathon, if selected, will service all financial documents and records of the district.
The quotes are competitive, however, included in the quote for Marathon is the server that stores all of our information as a backup. It is one of the additional costs with Harris.
Hudson believes that Marathon is offering a long term solution and becoming more efficient in business office matters.
“The board is looking forward to what we have presented to them. Basically, that is we need a solution that will cut down on manual labor and give access to employees across the district to their personal business accounts to manage their personal information, and to allow for purchasing to be done electronically versus submitting paper requisitions,” Hudson continued.
The board is expected to have a final decision made before their next school board meeting.
