GREENVILLE — George A. Williams Sr., 62, quietly passed on January 13, 2023, at his home. He was born to Willie and Hattie Beatrice Williams, on March 16, 1960, in Greenville, MS. George Sr. confessed an early belief in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at age 11, which sustained him throughout his entire life. George Sr. graduated from Greenville High School in 1978 and attended the U.S. Army Primary Leadership School.
He served his country, in the United States Army, as a Specialist Four, 25th Infantry Division Air Assault. He has traveled to many places; however, Hawaii and New Zealand were amongst his favorites. After serving in the military, he continued his career as a mechanic engineer at Public Works for the City of Greenville, until he retired. He was also a welder and business owner.
He was passionate about having the most positive change in people. He was an active donor to St. Jude Research Hospital.George Sr. was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was a respected, honorable, and loving man. He considered himself a "Jack of all Trades." George Sr. was skilled at numerous things, however, being a mechanic was his passion. He enjoyed fishing, barbequing, family gatherings, and helping others in any way that he could. His love and positive influence will forever remain in the lives of all that knew him. He will be unconditionally missed by his family and friends. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Erreton Demond Howard Sr. (Ashley Howard), Kimberly Howard, Candace Johnson (Michael Johnson), George Williams Jr., ZaKeia Williams-O'Braint (Jessie O'Braint); (2) brothers: Larry (Jannis) Williams and Keith Williams; and (1) sister: Yolonda Taplin. He is survived by eleven grandchildren. He is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Lou Ethel Williams and George Williams and maternal grandparents Bertha Mae and Alonzo Haygood; his father and mother; as well as his sisters Mona Conner and Patricia Jung Dean.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on January 21, 2023, at Byas Funeral Home located at 609 S. Broadway St. Greenville, MS 38703. Condolences may be offered at 420 Thomas St. Greenville, MS 38703.
