Seventh St., Greenville, with the Rev. B.T. Benson officiating. He made his transition from his earthly body Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, at the home of his eldest son, Aaron, and wife, Deborah, surrounded by family and dear friends. The body is entrusted to Watson Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1946 to the late John Redd Sr. and Geneva Rufus in Lula. Both preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Amanda Elzy High School in Greenwood, where he played football and Mississippi Valley State University, where he obtained a degree in sociology.
John confessed Christ at an early age at Hopewell MB Church in Itta Bena, under the leadership of the Rev. G.W. Hollins. After moving to Greenville, he continued his Christian journey at Pleasant Green MB Church as a deacon for many years under the leadership of the Rev. G.W. Hollins and later under the Rev. B.T. Benson.
He was employed by Clever Brooks for 29 years, first as a boiler tester and later became supervisor of that department.
He had a passion for hunting, fishing and sport. You could always talk him into going hunting or tossing a ball around the yard with the children.
John married his high school sweetheart, Avery Loggins, in 1968. This union was blessed with three children. After the untimely death of his first wife, he later married Bobbie Allen, creating a beautiful blended family. This union received the blessing of two more healthy children.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents; his devoted stepfather, David Hardman Sr.; his sister and her husband, Charity (Albert) Watson; brother, James Redd; grandson, John Redd IV; and great-grandson, Lakavion Keshun Coffer.
He leaves to cherish his memory seven sons, Aaron (Deborah) Redd, of Greenville, John Ill (Patricia) Redd, of Sidon, James (Felecia) Redd, of Greenwood, Earvin Duncan, Marvin Duncan and Tommy Redd, all of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Dwain Norman, of Newburgh, New York; a daughter, Geneva Redd, of Greenville; six brothers, Joe (Minnie) Redd, of Greenville, Larry Redd, of Tupelo, Claude (Shirley) Redd, David (Nanzetta) Hardman, Ondra (Sandra) Hardman and sister-in-law, Aline Redd, all of Houston, Texas, and Henry (Dimitri) Hardman, of San Antonio Texas; four sisters, Johnetta Redd (Thomas) McKinley, of Renova, Linda Redd Gabvine, of St Louis Missouri, Gloria (Carl) Smith and Patricia (Fredrick) Jackson, both of Greenville; an uncle, Fred Redd, of San Francisco, California; an aunt, Dorothy Hite, of St Louis; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
